I have to do three special assignments in my IT Customer Service Skills class and one of them happened to be the FVTC Open House that was this past Tuesday. I had to spend an hour down in the commons greeting prospective students, some of whom I saw that were doing assignments for their high school classes about the open house. I was given the opportunity by my instructor to give an older gentleman a tour of the IT Student Help Desk which I put an hour of my time on Tuesdays in there for class credit. Then I took him to A105, the Business Technology Computer Lab for Business and Information Technology students, all along the way trying to make small talk with him. When we were done I walked him past the conference room closest to the commons so he could fill out an application for admission, which he did so we got a new student in the IT program for next semester or the fall of next year. Plus they had hot dogs and soda which I indulged in. I forgot to mention that new student who registered for admission at the open house got their registration fee waived which I thought was cool.
I have never been to the college's open house before so that was a new experience for me. I hope I get that opportunity to attend it again next year.
